Wednesday, April 24th – Our morning flight will have us flying to “The Music Capital of the World,” Nashville, Tennessee. After our arrival in Nashville we will pay a visit to the Hermitage, the plantation home of Andrew Jackson, military hero, populist, and 7th president of the United States. Jackson (Old Hickory) lived here until his death in 1845 and his mansion is considered the most accurately preserved presidential home in the US, with restored decor and original furnishings. Our comfortable hotel accommodations while in Nashville will be at the Comfort Suites.
Thursday, April 25th – Our first visit of the day will be at the Parthenon, which stands proudly as the centerpiece of Centennial Park and serves as Nashville’s art museum. Our next stop is at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Country music fans are drawn by the carload to the Hall of Fame, where they can pay homage to country’s greatest stars. Those who are not fans when they walk in generally leave with an appreciation of the genre’s varied roots. Tonight we have reserved seats at the famous and historic Ryman Auditorium for a performance of “Opry Country Classic.” It’s always fun to see what headliners show up for the evening’s performance. This finger-snapping, toe-tapping evening is just the beginning of a fantastic tour filled with spectacular scenery and world-class entertainment. (breakfast, dinner)
Friday, April 26th – We say goodbye to Nashville and travel a few hours east to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, where we will check in to our comfortable accommodations at the Hilton Garden Inn, which will be home for the next four nights. After dinner we will be attending a grand performance at the Country Tonite Theater. Country Tonite’s 2019 season promises to surpass all expectations as they combine your favorite country classics with hot new country hits and hilarious country comedy in this fast-paced show now in its 23rd year. The great thing about this show in Pigeon Forge is that you don’t even have to be a fan of country music to LOVE Country Tonite! Its that “feel-good” kind of show that will stay with you long after the vacation is over. (breakfast, dinner)
Saturday, April 27th – This morning we’ll enjoy a very scenic drive through the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Emitting a distinct smoke-like haze, these mountains are some of the oldest upland regions on earth. The most visited of National Parks, the “Smokies” host over eleven million visitors each year. We will be joined by a local step-on guide that will tell us about the history, life and legends of these great mountains. Keep your eyes open for bears on our way to Newfound Gap, the top of the mountain where we meet the state line into North Carolina and the Appalachian Trail.
Our afternoon will be spent in nearby Gatlinburg, a charming resort town located at the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains. Here you will have free time to purchase lunch and discover the many art galleries, museums and boutiques that Gatlinburg has to offer.
For our evening’s entertainment we will head on over to the Smoky Mountain Opry. This is the area’s largest musical variety show featuring music from Big Band Swing through today’s Country. See the most talented cast of singers, dancers, comedians and musicians the Smokies have to offer! You’ll marvel at the special effects, laser lights, pyro, giant video screens, dazzling costumes and high flying musicians! Yes….high flying musicians! (breakfast, dinner)
Sunday, April 28th – Back in 1895 George Vanderbilt II, grandson of railroad tycoon Cornelius Vanderbilt, decided to build himself “a little mountain escape” in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. The result was the Biltmore Estate, a fabulous 250-room French chateau. Today it is the largest private home in America and is situated on 8000 acres. We’ll enjoy the house virtually as it was in Vanderbilt’s day, because sculptures, paintings, furnishings and household items have been carefully preserved by his descendants.
Whether you’re 23 or 93, you’ll be rolling in the isles as we attend the Comedy Barn Theater, the winner of the funniest show 10 years in a row! The Comedy Barn offers clean comedy for an enjoyable evening of family fun and entertainment. (breakfast)
Monday, April 29th – Let the good times roll as we have a fun-filled day planned at Dollywood – Dolly Parton’s exciting amusement park featuring stunning scenery, pleasurable performances, old-time crafts, amusement rides and friendly folks. At Dollywood, see one of the many daily shows and watch local artisans demonstrate their crafts; or ride the Dollywood Express, an authentic steam train that takes you on a five-mile ride through the Smoky Mountains. Dollywood is the biggest “ticketed” tourist attraction in Tennessee and you won’t be disappointed. In fact, on our past tours to this region our tour participants have loved their day at Dollywood. Tonight you’ll be absolutely delighted as we celebrate our scenic treasures and daily pleasures at our farewell dinner at one of the spectacular dinner theaters in Pigeon Forge. What a great combo – dinner with entertainment! (breakfast, dinner)
Tuesday, April 30th – Your experience in the Great Smokies, the “Music Capital of the World” and charming Gatlinburg is sure to remain a treasured possession in your heart. Our tour ends today as we catch our flight back to Salt Lake City with many pleasant memories of Tennessee. (breakfast)
