Tuesday, August 23rd – Your morning nonstop flight from Salt Lake City will have you arriving in Anchorage ready for a week of excitement in the “Land of the Midnight Sun.” We will meet up with a local tour guide who will accompany the group and provide narration along our journey each day. This afternoon we will be treated with a city tour of Anchorage featuring: Lake Hood where 190+ floatplanes take off and land daily, Earthquake Park to learn about the 1964 earthquake, the historic downtown area, and the Anchorage Museum to learn about the history and culture of Alaska.
Wednesday, August 24th – After breakfast this morning we will board our deluxe motorcoach for a beautiful drive north to the quaint town of Talkeetna. Upon arrival in Talkeetna, we will board a deluxe dome railcar for a scenic train ride north to Denali National Park. Much of your relaxing ride will be along the Susitna River. As the journey continues you will cross Hurricane Gulch on a bridge spanning 914 feet, making it the longest bridge on the railroad. You’ll have chances along the way for great photo shots of Mt. Denali. Upon arrival in Denali, you will have the rest of the day at your leisure to explore on you own. Dinner will be included this evening. (breakfast and dinner included today)
Thursday, August 25th – This morning after breakfast we will travel deep into Denali National Park on an amazing narrated tour. Keep an eye out for animals that call this place home such as grizzly bear, moose, caribou, and Dall sheep. Take time to soak in the breathtaking scenery. A snack will be included during the outing. The Alaska Mountain Range rises over 20,000 feet and runs through Denali National Park. Its grandest mountain, Mt. Denali (formerly known as Mt. McKinley), stands 20,320 feet above sea level and is the highest peak in North America. We will return to the same lodging in Denali for a peaceful evening in Alaska, the Great Land. (breakfast and tour snack included today)
Friday, August 26th – Wake up to awe-inspiring views of Denali and other snowcapped peaks. You’ll have leisure time to explore Denali this morning before we board our deluxe motorcoach for a picturesque drive south to Talkeetna. The historic village of Talkeetna is nestled at the base of North America’s tallest peak, Denali. Talkeetna has an outstanding panoramic view of the Alaska Range that can be enjoyed and photographed from several locations as you wander through town and discover what this unique location has to offer. You’ll have free time to explore on your own or you can purchase an optional activity such as flightseeing, float trip, fishing, or an ATV tour. Or you can sit near the cracking fireplace in the lodge’s great room and relax – after all, you’re on vacation. Whether you visit an art gallery, gift shop, or restaurant, you’ll notice the friendly frontier hospitality. (breakfast included today)
Saturday, August 27th – Take advantage of your morning and soak up the atmosphere of this mountainous region. Midday we will travel through the Alaska Range along the picturesque Susitna River on our way to southward. Enroute we will enjoy a visit to the Iditarod Headquarters where you will have a chance to learn about the Last Great Race. We will arrive at our hotel in the early evening and check into our comfortable lodgings. (breakfast included today)
Sunday, August 28th – Today here in Seward we embark on a scenic cruise through Kenai Fjords National Park. Our cruise is filled with breathtaking views of glaciers, and offers great wildlife watching opportunities for all manner of marine life. Steller sea lions can be seen on the rocky islands, and harbor seals are often spotted on ice floes and in the bays. Sea otters bob on the surface, porpoises leap beside the boat and orca, minke, gray and humpback whales are all frequently sighted. The highlight of the day is a stop at the base of a tidewater glacier in the hopes of seeing it “calve” – shedding gigantic chunks of ice into the ocean with a thunderous crash. (breakfast included today)
Monday, August 29th –Before departing from Seward we will head to the Exit Glacier Nature Center where you are welcome to join a short, ranger led hike to Exit Glacier. Note the markers showing the glacier’s recession over the past 120 years. Walk the Edge of the Glacier Trail to capture stunning photos in front of glacier ice. Today we will also visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center where you will have a chance to see Alaska’s Wildlife up close and personal. We will enjoy dinner as a group tonight in Anchorage and then head to the airport for our late evening flight home filled with many memorable experiences of amazing Alaska.
