We will pay a visit to Arches National Park, the world’s largest concentration of natural stone arches. You’ll have the chance to view some of these “miracles of nature” right from the comfort of the motor-coach or take a short stroll amongst some of the formations. Then it’s off to Durango, a charming town that was born in the gold and silver mining era. You’ll have free time to explore this mountain town and soak in the charming atmosphere. Hotel accommodations for the next two nights will be at the Durango Comfort Inn and Suites. (breakfast included today)
Day 3/Thursday, October 6th
It’s full steam ahead today as we enjoy the fall colors on our Durango & Silverton narrow gauge train ride along the banks of the Anamas River. This is the perfect time of the year to enjoy the colors of the San Juan National Forest. Watch as the balloons launch in two remarkable waves as hundreds of hot air balloons take flight. It’s one of the most spectacular displays of sound and color in all of aviation. The fun continues as this afternoon we will enjoy a 2.7 mile aerial tram ride over deep canyons and breathtaking scenery to the top of Sandia Peak looking out over the Rio Grande Valley. Have your cameras ready as the sights are amazing. (breakfast included)
Day 6/Sunday, October 9th
Today it’s on to Mesa Verde National Park. More than 4000 Ancestral Puebloans thrived in Mesa Verde between 600 AD and 1300 AD and then moved on, leaving impressive cliff dwellings that range from one-room houses to villages of more than 200 dwellings. Today, hundreds of thousands of people travel to Mesa Verde to marvel at the resourcefulness of this early civilization. After our Park Ranger guided tour of Mesa Verde we will make our way to nearby Cortez, Colorado for a relaxing night at Holiday Inn Express. (breakfast included)
