National Park Treasures – Southern Utah & Northern Arizona
Day 1/Monday, September 20th
All aboard. This fun-filled adventure begins as we start picking up tour participants in Brigham City. We will make stops along I-15 in Ogden, Salt Lake City, Sandy and Orem where guests can join the group. An informative stop will be made at historic Cove Fort, and we’ll make a tasty stop at the new creamery in Beaver for delicious Aggie ice-cream. We will be welcomed at Kanab’s newest hotel, the comfortable LaQuinta Inn, where we will get a good night’s rest for our exciting National Parks Tour. (All four night’s accommodations will be at the same hotel). In the 1920’s, Hollywood fell in love with the surpassing beauty of the area. Kanab’s landscape provided dramatic backdrops for hundreds of movies produced in the region, and Kanab was nicknamed “Utah’s Little Hollywood.”
Day 2/Tuesday, September 21st
Zion National Park is likely one of the most awe-inspiring National Parks in the world and is our destination for today. Zion is just a short drive from Kanab, and we will enter the east entrance where we will have the rare opportunity to drive through the Mt. Carmel tunnels in our motor coach. Upon arrival in Zion you will be able to climb aboard Zion’s open-air tram to truly experience spectacular scenery as you wind alongside the Virgin River through the 2,400-foot-deep, ½ mile-wide Zion Canyon. You’ll be able to view the Great White Throne, the Checkerboard Mesa, and many of the other famous landmarks of this national treasure. Zion is a masterpiece of deep red canyons, mesas, buttes, massive monoliths and colorful towering cliffs rising steeply one-half mile above the lush greenery of the canyon floor. This will be a day you’ll remember for a lifetime. Back in Kanab you’ll have time to enjoy dinner, and then have time to explore and get lost in the famous Denny’s Wigwam (souvenir shop).
Day 3/Wednesday, September 22nd
After a relaxing morning in Kanab, we will board the motor coach and enter the Kaibab National Forest before arriving at the Grand Canyon National Park – North Rim. Considered as one of the seven natural wonders of the world, the Grand Canyon is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here we will learn about the geology and history of the canyon and take in its breathtaking beauty. The Grand Canyon is impressive in numerous ways and you will want to have your camera ready for some fabulous photo opportunities. A memorable dinner is planned for the group at Jacob Lake. We will return to our hotel in Kanab for a restful night.
Day 4/Thursday, September 23rd
Today we will drive the 74 miles to Page, Arizona where we will enjoy a visit to the Glen Canyon Dam Visitor Center. However, before our arrival, we will make a stop at Horseshoe Bend. This breathtaking view of the Colorado River is so famous that you’ve probably seen it on many wall calendars. Now you have your own chance to take postcard-perfect photos of Horseshoe Bend. After a lunch stop we will have an up-close opportunity to view the narrow, colorful, and sculpted geology of the lower end of Lake Powell on our afternoon Antelope Canyon cruise. This is an amazing opportunity to capture the unique beauty of Lake Powell. What a relaxing afternoon. This evening, back in Kanab, if you are in for a rootin’ tootin’ good time, then mosey over the the Parry Lodge Barn. Animal guests who have stayed in the barn include Roy Rogers’ horse “Trigger” and the Lone Ranger’s horse “Silver” as well as others. Today the old barn has been converted into a rustic western theater showcasing some of the great films made in the area. The atmosphere will send you back to simpler times.
Day 5/Friday, September 24th
This morning we will pay a visit to Bryce Canyon National Park, truly one of the most spectacular scenic wonders of the world. The sandstone formations within Bryce Canyon National Park, called Hoodoos, are the creation of wind and water erosion over eons of time. You’ll travel along the rim of the amphitheater and marvel at the magnificent formations carved by Mother Nature. Our tour will start to wind down as we head north and travel home. Great memories and new friendships are some of the benefits you’ll treasure from your experience on this relaxing tour.
