The Best of Michigan including Mackinac Island – May 13-20, 2025

Day 1/Tuesday, May 13th – Our early afternoon nonstop flight will have us arriving in “The Motor City” – Detroit. You won’t need a passport for this tour, although you’ll feel like you’re on a European Vacation. We will check into our comfortable hotel accommodations in Dearborn as we begin our exceptional visit to Michigan.
Day 2/Wednesday, May 14th – The auto industry remains central to Detroit’s economic and cultural identity. This morning, we will have the rare opportunity to get an inside look at the making of America’s most iconic truck, the Ford F-150. Everyone talks about the fascinating assembly line tour where you can view the workers and robotics assemble the trucks from an overhead catwalk. We are confident that you’ll find it very interesting and entertaining. Today we will also visit the adjacent Greenfield Village, an outdoor museum in a village style, where you’ll travel through time and US history. Your visit will even include a ride around the village in a restored Model T as you drive past a collection of buildings with historic significance such as the first Ford Garage, Thomas Edison’s laboratory, the Wright Brother’s childhood home and Cycle Shop, the home of Stephen Foster and many more. Greenfield Village is unlike any other living museum and should be on everyone’s list as they visit Michigan. (breakfast included)
Day 3/Thursday, May 15th – Before departing Dearborn today, we will visit The Henry Ford Museum, one of America’s greatest history attractions. This 12-acre indoor museum houses major collections in transportation, power and ship machinery, agriculture, home arts and more. Its new exhibit, “Driving America” is an exciting, interactive look at the car culture in the United States. You’ll get to see Kennedy’s Presidential Limousine, Rosa Park’s bus, Lincoln’s chair from the Ford Theatre, and many other fascinating items from history.
Next, we are off to the German Village of Frankenmuth. This is Michigan’s number one tourist destination and you’ll discover why. Almost everything about this village will make you feel as if you are in Bavaria.
You’ll love your accommodations at the Bavaria Inn Lodge, which is located on the shores of the Cass River. The Lodge is indeed a work of art and has so much to offer that you’ll feel as if you never need to leave the resort. Be sure to check out the Glockenspiel as it plays the Piped Piper, and the impressive 239-foot-long covered bridge leading to the resort property. We will have a nice dinner along with fun German entertainment tonight at the resort. (breakfast & dinner included)
Day 4/Friday, May 16th – After breakfast this morning we will travel down the road to visit Bronner’s, the world’s largest Christmas Store. The store itself is a destination and has facilities as large as 5 ½ football fields (yes, we will provide you with a map of the store). Next door is Michigan’s Military and Space Museum for those who are not in the Christmas mood. We will say “Auf Wiedersehn” (farewell) to Frankenmuth and travel North to Mackinaw City where we will take a 20-minute ferry crossing to romantic Mackinac Island (pronounced Mak-i-naw). As we disembark, we step back in time on this summer resort island, where motorized vehicles are not allowed. The only modes of transportation are bicycle, horse and carriage, or traveling by foot. The island has such a beautiful and tranquil setting that you’ll soon know why it is considered the crown jewel of Michigan, and why USA Today reported it as the best summer travel destination in the United States. You will be pleasantly pleased with your wonderful accommodations at the Bicycle Street Inn located in the middle of all the fudge and fun. Relax, you are now on island time. (breakfast included)
Day 5/Saturday, May 17th – Today is what a vacation is all about You’ll spend the entire day enjoying the island. After breakfast, you’ll have time to browse around the waterfront or just relax at the hotel. Late in the morning we’ll board our horse drawn carriage for a tour to learn the island’s history, geology and ecology. Our tour will lead us to the opulent Grand Hotel, where we’ll enjoy an elaborate buffet luncheon fit for royalty. The Grand Hotel was made famous by the movie “Somewhere in Time”, which was filmed in 1979 on the island and stars Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. After the luncheon you’ll have free time to enjoy the hotel and gardens which comprise the largest summer resort in America. The hotel also boasts the largest porch in the world extending 660 feet with astonishing views overlooking Lake Huron. There are many special places to visit in our country. Mackinac Island is certainly one of those places. It truly is a fairytale-type setting. You simply have to experience it. There is much to see and do within walking distance from the Bicycle Street Inn, so have fun today! (breakfast & luncheon included).
Day 6/Sunday, May 18th – After a relaxing morning on the island, we will catch the ferry and meet our motorcoach for a short drive to the waterfront resort town of Petoskey. The area has been a popular resort destination since the late 19th century when visitors came by train and steamer to escape industrialized cities throughout the Midwest. Today it’s your turn to enjoy its stunning natural beauty, Victorian charm, and genuine hospitality, and we have some fun things planned for you before we check into our resort hotel. Our accommodations in Petoskey will be at the Stafford’s Perry Hotel which is perched high on a bluff overlooking Lake Michigan and stands as a proud symbol of the early 1900’s when northern Michigan tourism was in its infancy. Built in 1899 as one of some 20 original luxury resort hotels, Stafford’s Perry Hotel is the only establishment of its kind still in operation. Situated in the heart of downtown Petoskey and the famed Gaslight Shopping District, you’ll enjoy the convenient location and stunning views from the veranda. We will enjoy a delightful group dinner tonight at the resort. (breakfast & dinner included)

Day 7/Monday, May 19th – You’ll have the morning to relax and enjoy the beautiful setting of your resort hotel located near the shore of Lake Michigan. Later, we will travel to Charlevoix to visit Castle Farms. Castle Farms remains one of northern Michigan’s hidden gems. Characterized by its Romanesque and Gothic-style arches, embellished turrets and thick stone walls, the castle provides a stark juxtaposition to the rolling green hills and lush farmland that makes up the surrounding landscape. Castle Farm was built in 1918 as a model working dairy farm by the acting President of Sears, Roebuck & Company. Today, it offers guests the chance to stroll through 100 years of history. Hear stories and fascinating historical facts on our guided tram tour while seeing the Enchanted Forest full of gnomes, Michigan’s largest outdoor model railroad, the towering Hedge Maze with overhead trains, and Norm the resident dragon. While here at Castle Farms we will enjoy an amazing luncheon prepared for our group. Later this afternoon, we will have a local guide show us around the area seeing more of the popular sights in this resort region and learning about its fascinating history. (breakfast & luncheon included)
Day 8/Tuesday, May 20th – After breakfast we will make our way to Grand Rapids, Michigan to catch our flight home. Oh, what memories we have made on our relaxing Michigan vacation. Who knew that Michigan is such a magical destination.

Texas – The Lone Star State
featuring San Antonio, Dallas, Ft. Worth, Waco and more!
Day 1 – Wednesday, March 26th – Our morning flight will take us to the Dallas/Ft. Worth airport in the Lone Star State of Texas. Upon our arrival we will meet our local guide, Candy, for an up-close look at the highlights of Dallas. She will share with us the fascinating history of the area and we will begin at Dealey Plaza, where JFK was shot. We will also check out attractions such as Pioneer Plaza, the Dallas Arts District, and the Queen Anne style homes of Highland Park (homes of the rich & famous and those with lots of money from the oil industry).
Late this afternoon we will check into our comfortable hotel accommodations in Grapevine, the charming and family friendly city in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. This evening your tour directors will host a welcome dinner where we will get better acquainted with those in the tour group. (dinner included)
Day 2 – Thursday, March 27th – After breakfast this morning we’ll tour the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. This is just one of two facilities in the United States that print paper money. From enclosed walkways, you’ll be able see the actual printing process take place which is fascinating. Their giftshop is one of a kind and worth spending a few minutes (and a few dollars) at.
You are in luck today, as we have reservations for lunch at Joe T’s famous Mexican Restaurant in Ft. Worth. Started in 1935, the restaurant has grown to be such a great success due to tasty recipes, loyal customers, and word of mouth advertising. Next up we will tour Fort Worth with our local guide and see the Water Gardens, the JFK Memorial, and stop at the Sid Richardson Collection of Western Art which includes famous works of art by Remington and Russell.
In the later afternoon it’s off to an old-fashioned cattle drive in Fort Worth, where the Old West will come to life before your eyes. Once home to cowboys, cattlemen and outlaws, today the Stockyards National Historic District is one of the most popular attractions in Texas. Day and night, visitors come to the Stockyards to get a taste of the true American West, and you will not be disappointed. We will have a private tour of the Stockyards and learn historical facts and hear timeless stories. We will be in the perfect location for the 4 pm cattle drive, after which we will have free time to stroll around the Stockyards. Perhaps you’ll want to visit the John Wayne Experience, The Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame, or the Stockyard Museum, but be sure to allow time to visit one of the many restaurants for a great Texas steak or BBQ. (breakfast and lunch included)
Day 3 – Friday, March 28th – After a scenic and relaxing 90-minute drive we will arrive in Waco where we will meet our local guide and start seeing the popular sights of Waco and learn of their fascinating history as well as the current happenings in this changing city due to the HGTV production of “Fixer Upper,” featuring Chip & JoAnna Gaines. You’ll see Waco’s historic Suspension Bridge, the longest single-span bridge west of the Mississippi when it was completed in 1870… a realicon of Waco history. Of course, we need to visit (and shop) at MagnoliaMarket which includes the shop, Silo Bakery, Magnolia Seed & Supply,Magnolia Press and Home Store. Jimmy Don’s Ironworks and Clint Harp Designs are a must also. If browsing the shops at the Magnolia Market not of interest to you, perhaps you’ll want to visit the nearby Dr. Pepper Museum or the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame (three great options). You’ll have pleasingly comfortable accommodations here in Waco. (breakfast included)
Day 4 – Saturday, March 29th – On our way from Waco to San Antonio, we will stop in Texas’ Hill Country region and visit the German settlement of Fredericksburg for a visit to the National Museum of the Pacific War, dedicated to teaching and preserving this chapter of U.S. history. The old-time Southwest will surround you as you take time to independently explore the quaint shops and enjoy lunch.
Spring is a magical time in Hill Country, Texas. The season brings an explosion of color and life to the area, with wildflowers blooming in full force. The bluebonnet is the state flower of Texas and is one of the most iconic wildflowers in Hill Country. The bluebonnet typically blooms in March and can be seen along roadsides, in fields, and in parks throughout the area. These beautiful blue flowers are a sight to behold and are a must-see for anyone visiting Hill Country in the spring.
We will also visit a real working wildflower farm (Wild Seed Farms) which spans over 200 acres in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. Their display gardens and walking trails are surrounded by lush vineyards located on the migratory path of both butterflies and hummingbirds. You’ll love your time spent here.
We will wind down our day with our arrival in San Antono, a city rich in history, bursting with culture, and booming with modern attractions. San Antonio invites us to discover what is old and explore what is new. Our wonderful hotel, The Drury Inn, is located on the Riverwalk where the evening is yours to stroll the meticulously landscaped Riverwalk and enjoy the many shops and restaurants. (breakfast included)
Day 5 – Sunday, March 30th – Enjoy a relaxing morning in the beautiful setting on the riverwalk. Late this morning will be our first stop at the Riverwalk Center where we will enjoy lunch followed by the film, “Alamo: The Price of Freedom” on the big IMAX screen. This movie is a stirring tribute to the 189 Texans, Tejanos and settlers who defended the besieged Alamo for 13 days. At the conclusion of the film, we will visit the Alamo Mission, which will be one of the many highlights of your tour.
No visit to San Antonio would be complete without a barge ride on the river, and we have reservations this evening for this top tourist attraction. You’ll love gliding along the narrow river under the twinkling lights in the towering bald cypress trees as you learn more about this charming city. This evening you are welcome to enjoy a free and unique 24-minute art and history presentation at the nearby San Fernando Cathedral. This presentation, entitled ‘The Saga’ is a video art presentation projected on the façade of the Cathedral, and covers 7,000 square feet of light, color and visual narration. Folks come from all over the world to experience The Saga and it is something you’ll talk about for some time. What a fun day! (breakfast & light dinner included at the hotel)
The Alamo
Day 6 – Monday, March 31st – This morning is yours to relax and do as you wish. Perhaps you’ll want to meander around the Riverwalk or take a dip in the rooftop swimming pool and whirlpool. In the early afternoon we will join our local guide and visit the Mission San Jose, the second mission established by Fray Antonio Margil de Jesus in 1720. Next, we’ll explore the bustling historic Pearl District, a revitalized cultural hub full of stunning architecture, exquisite dining and eclectic shops.
We will also visit the El Mercado Marketplace where the culture of San Antonio comes alive. It is the largest Mexican Marketplace in the United States and a great location to browse for one-of-a-kind goods and to have a great meal.
Exploring the San Antonio Riverwalk after dark is a magical experience, full of dazzling lights, great food, and rich history. Each of these spots offers something unique, making your nighttime adventure along the Riverwalk truly unforgettable. So, grab a friend, your camera, and get ready to explore the best of the Riverwalk at night! (breakfast & light dinner at the hotel included)
Day 7- Tuesday, April 1st – This morning you have two great options. You can relax at the hotel and enjoy the local surroundings, or you can join others on a fascinating tour of the SAS (San Antonio Shoes) shoe factory tour. Here at one of the few remaining shoe factories in the United State, you’ll see these popular shoes being made by hand, one shoe at a time with highest attention to detail.
For those remaining at the hotel, the group and motorcoach will stop by the hotel around 11:15 to head for lunch and then to pay a visit and stroll the grounds of the beautiful Japanese Tea Gardens. Afterwards, we will report to the San Antonio airport for our nonstop flight home filled with great memories of our time in Texas. (breakfast included)
