Tour Itinerary
Day 1 Wednesday, September 23rd –The excitement of your Pacific Coastal Tour begins once your flight arrives in Portland, Oregon. Your first amazing experience will be a drive through the mighty Columbia River Gorge with its dramatic scenery and steep walls. We will stop at Oregon’s 620-foot-high waterfall, Multnomah Falls, for a great photo opportunity with time to enjoy Oregon’s top tourist attraction. We will also enjoy a relaxing luncheon at the Multnomah Falls Lodge before heading to the coast.
Welcome to the enchanting resort town of Seaside, Oregon. It is here that you’ll spend the next two nights at the Seashore Inn on the Beach. A quintessential boardwalk experience awaits you here. (lunch included today)

Day 2 Thursday, September 24th – Kick back and relax this morning in Seaside. Perhaps a walk along the beach or a swim the ocean is on your agenda today. Our boutique hotel is right on the board walk in the heart of the excitement of this beach town, so whatever you do, the fun is nearby. In the afternoon we will take a short 15 minute drive down the coast to the world-famous Cannon Beach. You’ll have plenty of time to stroll down this beach and capture great photos of Haystack Rock. (breakfast included today)

Day 3 Friday, September 25th – After breakfast today we will start our scenic journey down the coast where almost every mile has something intriguing waiting for you. Highway 101 is never far from the pounding surf of the Pacific Ocean. Our first stop will be at the Tillamook Creamery where you’ll get a brief tour of this popular cheese and ice cream factory. We will also enjoy lunch here and you’ll have time to purchase a delicious ice-cream cone. Further down the coast we will make a visit at the Yaquina Head Lighthouse, which happens to be the tallest lighthouse in Oregon. If you like lighthouses, you are in luck. Our next stop will be at the Heceta Head Lighthouse, one of the most famous and photographed lighthouses along the entire west coast. We will arrive in Florence, Oregon and get settled into our comfortable hotel alongside the Siuslaw River. You are within walking distance of Bay Street which is filled with charming boutiques and plenty of restaurants. (breakfast included today)

Day 4 Saturday, September 26th – Sleep in this morning as we only have a one mile drive up the road to visit the Oregon Sand Dunes National Recreation Area (which is a 50 mile stretch of sand dunes along the coast, stretching from Coos Bay to Florence). Here, we will get on a large dune buggy for a thrilling ride over miles of sand. (Yes, this is a popular attraction for senior tours in the area and our groups in the past have loved this unique experience). We will continue our drive down the dramatic coastline of Oregon passing towering dunes and rocky headlands. We will cross the border from Oregon into California and the terrain will change as we head into Redwood National Park. Our comfortable accommodations will be in Klamath. This sleepy village is near the Klamath River and is in the heart of Redwood territory. (breakfast included today)
Day 5 Sunday, September 27th – We will start our day with a fun stop in Klamath where you’ll get to visit Paul Bunyan and Babe, the Blue Ox. We’ll even visit a drive-thru redwood tree, one of just 3 remaining redwoods that you can actually drive an automobile through.
We will make a stop in the fascinating city of Eureka, California which has a history of fishing farming, gold mining and especially logging timber. Today it is a virtual open-air museum of architecture, dedicated to preserving one of the finest and largest collections of Victorian homes in the world. (It’s even more interesting to know that they are built out of redwood). We will include a stop at the famous Carson Mansion for a photo opportunity.
Truly walking among the giant redwood trees is one of life’s memorable moments and you’ll have a chance to stroll on a level pathway beneath these majestic and massive trees as we make a stop at Humboldt State Park. Then, we will pull off the main road and take an amazing picturesque drive known as the Avenue of the Giants – for a slow-paced scenic drive in the dense Redwood Forest. Without a doubt, the best way to view the redwoods is in a touring motor coach with large windows and someone else at the wheel. Have your cameras ready!
You’ll love your cozy accommodations tonight at the historic Benbow Inn which is set above the banks of the Eel River. A special group dinner is planned at the Inn. (breakfast and dinner included today)

Day 6 Monday, September 28th – After a very delightful breakfast at the Benbow Inn, we will continue our fabulous drive where the scenery will change from redwoods to vineyards. What a stunning drive we will have as we enter laid- back but fashionable Napa Valley. Napa Valley is a premier wine destination known for its magnificent scenery, world-class wineries and a variety of outdoor activities. This afternoon we visit a winery and learn a little bit about wine production and visit a tasting room where you can savor some wine samples. Before checking into our comfortable hotel accommodations we will enjoy a memorable group dinner in this beautiful region. (breakfast and dinner included)
Day 7 Tuesday, September 29th – A fun day is in store for you today. We will cross over the Golden Gate Bridge and visit “The City by the Bay” – San Francisco. Our first stop will be on the waterfront where we will enjoy a relaxing narrated harbor cruise as we sail past Alcatraz Island and under the Golden Gate Bridge. While out on the water we’ll have spectacular views of the city for postcard perfect photos. Afterwards, you’ll have free time to visit the shops at Pier 39 and purchase lunch (sourdough bread and clam chowder are the popular choices here on the waterfront). The famous Pier 39 is a lively marketplace with street performers, great seafood restaurants, and home to the pier’s resident sea lions. Next, we will be treated with of bit of history of San Francisco by taking a Cable Car ride up and down the hills of the city and past spectacular attractions. Our ride will end up at Ghirardelli Square where your have time to purchase some chocolate or ice cream. Before we head back across the bridge to our hotel, we will make a stop at Golden Gate Vista Point for more great photo opportunities. (breakfast included)

Day 8 Wednesday, September 30th – “San Francisco – Open Your Golden Gate” because we are going to cross the bridge one more time on our way to the airport. You’ll fly home this afternoon with wonderful memories of your time discovering some of the scenic wonders along Highway 101. (breakfast included)
